Carvel Ice Cream Bakery Restaurant Review: Tom Carvel accidentally started this popular ice cream chain when his ice cream truck suffered a flat tire in 1934, causing him to sell his wares from a fixed location. Soft-serve cones and sundaes are now available at more than 500 Carvel stores, while the confections, including ice cream cakes and round sandwiches called "Flying Saucers," are also sold at thousands of supermarkets. They are so ubiquitous, Mark Consuelos surprised wife Kelly Ripa with a Fudgie the Whale cake on TV on her birthday in 2011. Low-cal treats are also offered. Other locations. |
