John McDonald (Canteen, Merc Bar) and Joshua Pickard (Joe's Pub, Time Café) opened the hip and stylish Lever House Restaurant in the landmark Modernist building of the same name. Within Marc Newson's honeycomb motif design, the classic American menu gets contemporary twists---such as braised beef short ribs crusted with mustard, lemon, horseradish and capers. The pan-roasted red snapper with Asian pear, fennel, red onion and cucumber-mint raita makes another fine choice but guests desiring something from the grill will not be disappointed in the Brandt beef sirloin steak served with steak fries and wine merchant’s butter. Chef Bradford Thompson will surely put his own contemporary stamp on the menu when he takes over Lever’s helm. |
