Cava is an intimate, family-run spot in the heart of Montecito. Offering the bold flavors of Spain, Mexico and South America, the menu, which offers full meals and lighter tapas, puts an elegant spin on Latin cuisine. The sounds of Spanish guitar fill the room, and there’s an outdoor terraza complete with a homey fireplace and original artwork by noted Santa Barbara artist Channing Peake. The place is well known for its margaritas made from quality spirits, and the bar also features several high-end California wines and a lengthy list of cordials. To start, we like the refreshing halibut ceviche and the homemade guacamole with warm tortilla chips. Pork pozole is a hearty and filling Mexican stew with cabbage and avocado, or go for the classic paella. Among the meat dishes we recommend the Cava filet mignon served with a green peppercorn sauce and chipotle mashed potatoes. For dessert, try the besito de cava, a rich chocolate ganache torte drenched in a sauce made with coffee and Patron XO tequila.
