THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Caviar & Banana Restaurant Review:

Housed in the certainly-haunted former Rocco's space, Caviar & Banana could be considered to be Jeffrey Chodorow's revenge (after his on-screen falling out with Rocco DeSpirito). But that would be dismissing this fine eatery. Chef Claude Troisgros, who once ran CT in Gramercy Park and a number of eateries in Rio, serves up Brazilian-inspired fare with French flair. Think sea bass cooked in saffron, lemongrass, achiote and ginger; roast duck breast glazed with red curry and pineapple; or beef tenderloin with garlic, herbs and jalapeño. The menu is long---divided up between mains, moquecas (a hearty Brazilian coconut stew) and churrascos---and not for the indecisive; still, it's nearly impossible to make a bad choice here. A list of sweet, south-of-the-border booze concoctions (try the jalapeño caipirinha) might erase your memories the next morning, but we have a feeling this Gramercy Park eatery is going to have something Rocco's did not: longevity.
