 Cha Cha's Tacos & Tequila enlivens the restaurant and bar scene in Downtown Brea. The minimalist modern décor surprises with its low-key banquettes, giant picture windows, exhibition kitchen and golden mood lighting. Start with a strong hand-crafted cocktail like the prickly pear, mango habanero or signature Cha Cha margarita, which contains fresh grapefruit juice and elderflower liqueur, as well as 100 percent blue agave tequila. The chips and salsa here aren’t free, but they are unusually crisp and worth the price, especially with the made-to-order, creamy guacamole. For appetizers, skip the way-too-cheesy fundido and try the calamari or the fresh Manila clams with spicy broth. Freshly made organic tortillas highlight six types of “street food”-style tacos. As for mains, the roasted chicken with Yucatan spices is a standout, as are the enchiladas, salmon Veracruz and the slow-braised carnitas. Looking for a late-night spot in Brea? After 10 p.m., Cha Cha’s serves items from its reasonably priced happy hour menu and transforms into a hip spot to drink, eat and party into the wee hours. Cha Cha's also features all-you-can-drink mimosas as part of a special brunch menu on Saturdays and Sundays.
