| Never anything from a can, boasts Chevys, an ambitious claim for this bustling Tex-Mex joint. We can attest to the freshness of the warm, paper-thin chips, the salsa made hourly and the tortillas that roll off the machine in the dining room throughout the day. Chefs we know head to Chevys for the fresh Mex sampler, with spicy chicken wings, chicken and pork tamales, fajita chicken nachos and a chicken quesadilla. We like the smothered chile verde burrito and the carnitas fajitas (and not just because it’s fun to say). If you can't decide, go for a combo platter, where you can pick from enchiladas, tacos, tamales and chile rellenos. On Tuesdays, kids’ meals are free with the purchase of a regular entrée. Margarita flavors range from classic to pomegranate or spicy mango. There's also an admirable choice of Mexican beers. Desserts aren't a big seller, but we save room for the sopapillas, crisp tortillas drizzled with honey, sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon and served with vanilla ice cream. |
