Chevys Fresh Mex Restaurant Review: Never anything from a can, boasts Chevys, an ambitious claim for this bustling Tex-Mex joint. We can attest to the freshness of the warm, paper-thin chips, the salsa made hourly and the tortillas that roll off the machine in the dining room throughout the day. Chefs we know head to Chevys for the fresh guacamole and seasonal fruit margaritas. For entrées, we like the mesquite-grilled steak tacos or the crispy chicken flautas with roasted peppers, corn and cheese, served with pineapple salsa, jalapeño jelly and chipotle aïoli. If you can't decide, go for a combo platter, where you can pick from enchiladas, tacos, tamales and chile rellenos --- try the slow-braised chicken tamales and the picadillo beef mini chimichanga. On weekends, you can get two kids’ meals free with the purchase of a regular entrée. Margarita flavors range from classic to pomegranate or spicy mango. There's also an admirable choice of Mexican beers. Desserts aren't a big seller, but we save room for the Chiquita sundae in a sweet cinnamon boat, smothered in caramel-like cajeta and chocolate sauce.
