The brainchild of local chef Laurent Godbout, Chez L’Épicier is the flagship restaurant of this dynamic entrepreneur’s little culinary empire. Located right in the heart of Old Montreal, the fare favors a mix of terroir products and international favorites. Presentation is a high priority and the dishes and table pieces change depending on what’s being served; sometimes the aesthetic comes at the expense of practicality. Try the pan-seared foie gras or Alberta beef filet mignon; a vegetarian option is always available. The wine cellar boasts 250 labels and nearly 1,800 bottles all carefully chosen to match the flavors offered on the menu. End the evening with a crème brûlée. The sounds are jazzy, and the décor inventive.
