 With its central location on San Francisco's burgeoning Mint Plaza redevelopment, Chez Papa Resto, a sibling of the beloved Chez Papa in Potrero Hill, brings a touch of Parisian cool to the square. Black chandeliers, low lighting and rich fabrics set a sexy, sultry mood for the downtown denizens that flock here after work for dinner and cocktails. Chef David Bazirgan offers comforting yet sophisticated Francophile fare with a modern twist: Snake River Kobe beef tartare with Dijon mustard, capers, shallots and toast points makes for a savory start, or opt for the artisan foie gras two-ways: terrine with cranberry compote and seared with apple and Calvados. Entrées lean towards the classics and there are few surprises: trumpet mushrooms, melted leeks and black truffle emulsion enhance sautéed Alaskan black cod while Liberty Farms duck breast is paired with sunchokes, Swiss chard, kumquats and sherry-port glaze. For value-conscious diners, there are three-course prix-fixe menus for lunch and dinner (on select evenings) priced respectively at $22.95 and $34.95. |
