Openings

"Top Chef" alum Fabio Viviani has opened Siena Tavern in River North, serving rustic Italian eats, like coccoli (fried dough with stracchino cheese and prosciutto) and pasta that's made in house. Shin Thompson (Bonsoiree) and Ryan O'Donnell (Gemini Bistro, Rustic House) are readying Japanese brasserie Kabocha for opening. It'll serve Thompson's beloved "Duck, Duck, Goose" as well as steamed braised rabbit dumplings. Kabocha, 952 W. Lake St., Chicago, IL 60607, no phone.
 
Mott Street, from the Ruxbin crew, is expected to open in the one-time MC Bistro space. Rumor has it, there will be a vegetable garden, farmers' market and movies on the patio. Mott Street, 1401 N. Ashland Ave., Chicago, IL 60642, no phone.
 
It's not like the city is wanting for sports bars, but it's getting another one anyway --- this time, Tommy Knuckles in Lincoln Park. Not all that surprisingly, upscale bar food will be the focus. New Mixology Program at Chicago Cut Steakhouse
Chicago Cut Steakhouse has introduced a new mixology program created by Katie Sauer, with owners David Flom and Matt Moore. It features modern takes on traditional cocktails, such as the Moscow Mule, Vesper and Rum Old Fashioned. Cocktails are priced at $12 each. Chicago Cut Steakhouse, 300 N. James Beard Award Nominations Announced
The nominees for the 2013 James Beard Foundation Awards have been announced. Among the Chicago representatives are Dave Beran (Next Restaurant), Stephanie Izard (Girl & The Goat), Paul Virant (Vie) and Andrew Zimmerman (Sepia) for Outstanding Chef Great Lakes. The annual Awards Ceremony and Gala Reception will take place on May 3 & 6, 2013, at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall in New York. What’s Next at Next
Chef Grant Achatz has announced the upcoming menus for Next Restaurant. The early 2013 menu is themed around "The Hunt" with dishes that might include venison heart tartare and bear jerky. A vegan menu will be created in May, followed by food inspired by the Bocuse d'Or cooking competition in September. Next Restaurant, 953 W.
