China Blue Restaurant Review:

Step into this Shanghainese restaurant at the end of a quiet street on the border of Chinatown and TriBeCa and relive the timeless elegance of The Bund in old Shanghai. The spacious dining room boasts soft blues, rosewood, a tin ceiling and vintage trappings. Traditional Shanghainese dishes are featured on the menu, as well as a selection of regional favorites. A braised bean curd wrap comes filled with marinated shiitake mushrooms, while eel arrives lightly fried and crispy. Winter melon and ham soup has balanced flavors enhanced by the smokiness of cured ham, ideal for sharing. Entrées include tender duck with a crispy skin and Chinese broccoli. Filet of tilapia with an assortment of pickled greens and garlic is delicately sautéed; bass is browned then steamed whole with ginger. Chinese cuisine and wine are indeed complementary, as the carefully chosen wine list proves. Bottles ranging from a Cremant de Bourgogne with toasty notes to a fruit-forward Côtes du Rhône ensure there’s a varietal to suit the range of tastes on the menu.
