China Wokery is a local favorite on San Marcos's Old California Restaurant Row, a shopping center of eateries that includes several American favorites as well as a dozen or more international options. The décor is whimsical and the mood is light. The menu is not revolutionary, but we enjoy popping in for steamed dumplings or a garlicky stir-fry. The wide selection allows for vegetarians (lettuce wraps with tofu, broccoli with garlic sauce and Buddha’s delight) and meat-lovers (barbecued spare ribs, moo shu pork and Szechuan shredded beef) to dine together in harmony.

I visited the place a while back, and the food was mediocre and overpriced. I can't see why you would consider this a best cheap eat and went to the trouble of registering just so I could say so. I noticed on Yelp the reviews are mixed and the place is still overpriced and empty. For decent Chinese food go to Convoy street and you have a myriad of low-cost choices. For San Marcos there's the wonderful and cheap Kinaly Thai on Mission in the Stater Bros Center and Pho in Escondido.
