THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Chinois Restaurant Review:

Chinois is the cousin of Wolfgang Puck's Chinese fusion restaurant in Santa Monica named Chinois on Main. Its Zen-like interior includes a traditional Asian fountain designed to provide relaxation. The 12-seat sushi bar features specialties such as spicy tuna rolls and fresh halibut. The cuisine has expanded beyond Chinese influence to incorporate more Southeast Asian flavors, including tastes from Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand. For starters, we like well-spiced curried chicken eggrolls and a fragrant hot-and-sour shrimp soup served with wheat noodles. Korean beef short ribs are glazed with miso and soy and accented with spicy kimchi. Wolfgang Puck’s famous Chinois chicken salad with crisp wontons and candied cashews is a favorite among Puck purists. Among dinner entrée classics are the whole sizzling catfish with ponzu dipping sauce and Shanghai-style Maine lobster, with a coconut curry sauce, rice and crispy spinach. The versatile wine list and the array of saké and beer choices nicely complement the cuisine. Among appealing desserts are the staggering 15-layer carrot cake and a bright Meyer lemon cheesecake. A decorative wrought-iron staircase leads to the balcony-level Poetry, Chinois' ultra-modern club space designed to accommodate private luncheons, meetings and parties.
