![]() Chosun Galbee Restaurant Review: Probably Koreatown’s most approachable barbecue spot, this large and modern restaurant gets all the standards just right, making it great for neophytes while still attracting the local Korean community. Its setting is both indoors (hard woods, marble, stainless steel) and outdoors (broad-leafed ficus plants under a curved canopy), with excellent ventilation for the tabletop barbecue grills. The namesake Chosun Galbee is beef rib cubes in a special-recipe soy sauce; other cuts of meat include beef roast and bulgogi (beef slices in soy) as well as chicken, all served with a generous assortment of banchan (small side dishes). Other classics include bibimbap (rice with beef and marinated vegetables, which is tossed like a salad), job chae (clear noodles mingled with vegetables and sesame oil) and many varieties of chigae (stews) and tang (soups). On hot L.A. afternoons, mul nengmyun is a refreshing cold noodle soup best enjoyed on the patio. Korean and Japanese beer, soju, saké and a good selection of whiskeys are available. |
