Chef Kuldeep Singh also owns more upmarket Mela around the corner, so it was sensible to open this well-priced venue serving authentic home-style cooking. The menu roams the subcontinent with different regions showcased, changing monthly. You can opt for the Chowki Festive Feast at £19.95, choose from the à la carte menu or just mix and match. Starters range from £4.25 to £5.50; Chowki pots from £7.95 to £10.95 (a little more if you take the options with dal and bread as well as rice), and grills from £12.95 to £15.95. Service is friendly, the place buzzes and it is bang in central London.
