Chuy's Comida Deluxe Restaurant Review: Boastful of an obsession with all things kitsch, Chuy's is a shrine to Elvis and funky folk art. The main room pays tribute to The King with some wacky memorabilia that is a perfect fit for a place that features the Elvis Presley Memorial Combo platter. The most fun aspect of the décor, though, is in the bar, which hops most every night of the week --- it’s where vintage cars from the '50s and '60 have been cut away and upholstered to form diner booths. Inventive enchiladas, chiles rellenos and chimichangas (this one's called a Chuychanga) come with a choice of sauces, from mild to mega-hot. Beware the green chile sauce, Chuy's hottest, although it is a legendary hangover cure. The 911 hot plate with stacked blue corn and smoked chicken enchiladas will really get your attention --- ask for extra water. Other items are fresh renditions of the familiar quesadillas and nachos, along with a slew of fancy frozen margaritas that create a bustling happy hour. There a couple of lighter dishes, as well as some vegetarian options and a special kids’ menu. |
