THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Citarella Restaurant Review:
We like seafood and we like the creativity at Citarella. Owner Joe Gurrera went beyond his fine food shops on the Upper West Side with this David Rockwell-designed midtown location. His establishment strives for quality and hits the mark quite high. A multilevel dining room greets the diner with color-changing, sea-shell encrusted porthole windows. You could be on a ship and you will take a serious gastronomic cruise. Brian Bistrong (Bouley alumnus) is your captain and steers you through his world of hamachi salad with shiso and daikon sprouts, and soft shell crabs accompanied by red onion confit. Stopovers include pan-roasted striped bass in a red wine reduction and Georgia shad in an onion consommé. Another port o' call, with entertainment, is the sushi bar with fresh fish offerings from first officer Kazuhide Hashimoto. The crew is first rate. An established wine list will make the voyage pleasurable; the best part: no seasickness.
