The rococo cocktails and fun snacks at dark, sophisticated City Bar have chef Robert Fathman's signature written all over them.

Chef Robert Fathman has always loved the high-low theatrics of food. He has flitted between haute dining rooms, funky lounges and steakhouses with some ease and lots of edge. These days, his character may be even more evident in The Lenox hotel's City Bar than in its adjacent signature dining room, the Fathman-run Azure. City Bar is the rare windowless room that really works, feeling equal parts Old and New Boston. Rich brown tones are offset by a striking bar back-lit by historic prints of the city. Cocktails, including a number of unusual infusions, are fabulous and tailor-made to match the extensive bar menu of homemade potato chips and polenta fries, zesty Cubanos---indeed, some of the city’s best Cuban sandwiches---and more. It's the kind of easy-breezy fare that only certain kitchen hands can transform. Who knew it was hidden at City Bar?
