City Winery Restaurant Review:
Michael Dorf, who founded the New York music venue Knitting Factory, is the driving force behind this unusual concept: a single space offering wine, produced and bottled on site, chef-driven fare and live music. Executive chef Jeffrey McGar offers a globally influenced, wine-focused and locally sourced cuisine with Southern flair featuring concert-friendly small plates and shareable dishes. Expect buttermilk fried chicken and low country shrimp and grits but done in a unique "scampi" style. Benton's bacon from Tennessee adorns the deviled eggs. Pork belly with pickles is another Southern palate pleasure, and the pan-seared trout did not disappoint. But there are pizzas, and from the Southwest, duck confit-filled tacos that are singularly good. Wide-ranging desserts nod to the South again with peach cobbler, but chocolate selections abound. Pick from wines on tap and a wide assortment of globally chosen labels, many poured by the glass, in addition to a lengthy sommelier’s select list for bigger spenders. Cocktails and beers, with numerous options from local craft brewers, are offered as well.
