Cleopatra Mediterranean Cuisine Restaurant Review: Belying its nondescript façade, Cleopatra offers a menu of farm-raised halal meats that draws customers from across the metro area. The interior is elegant, overlaid with white linens that bask in the dim glow of beaded Syrian chandeliers. Consistently well-prepared food and the warmth of a family-owned enterprise make it worth the considerable drive from downtown New Orleans. Patrons may enjoy grilled and spit-roasted lamb, beef and chicken, a half-dozen kebabs, steaks and lamb chops. Pita bread is baked in-house and might be some of the best in the area; it’s served warm, its surface roughened with flour, the body puffed and bready. Stuffed grape leaves, soups and crisp salads give vegetarians something to savor, while desserts include house-made baklava and generously portioned cakes. Cleopatra serves no alcohol.
