| The charming La Jolla eatery is located right above the scenic Cove. Out-of-town guests like the view---look up and see shoppers bustling in the Village, look down and see the palm-lined ocean park---so be sure to request a seat on the west deck. Housed in a renovated 1920s cottage, Cody’s décor matches its menu of updated California-American fare such as vegetable-laden salads, crispy crab cakes and a “serious” BLT---eight to ten pieces of crispy bacon, smashed ripe avocado and house-made aïoli on a freshly-baked ciabatta bun. For breakfast, we like the french toast made with locally produced Bread & Cie challah, as well as the fluffy omelet of wild mushrooms, baby-leaf spinach, tomatoes and Sonoma chèvre. At lunchtime, we go for the thick, juicy burgers accompanied by fresh-cut onions rings or the fish ‘n’ chips. From Memorial Day to Labor Day dinner is served with choices like crispy free-range chicken with spinach and goat cheese and the tender chipotle-glazed roasted salmon. Desserts are old-fashioned goodness: don’t miss the triple-layer carrot cake with buttercream frosting, caramel and almonds. |
