Belying its name, chef Matthew Kenney’s latest hotspot is subdued and sleek---not a simple eatery. A restrained and distinctly refined décor of black and white lends itself more to the habits of the buildings landlord, Donald Trump, than Kenney. A few color photographs, including one grand red rose, provide a tweak of energy to the atmosphere. The dining room remains comfortable and Kenney leaves the accents to the menu---American cuisine with light, colorful touches of Mediterranean flavors. Fresh greens, doses of mint and healthy beans add zest and variety. An eclectic wine list is matched by a beautiful selection of high-end teas available even as a cocktail. The room is dominated by a great circular bar situated at the entrance and allows for easy spying, flirting or dining, whichever is most important.
