Conch Republic Seafood Company Restaurant Review

: Conch Republic is an open-air citadel of seafood and a tourist destination for a historical reminder of the bygone fishing industry once centered on the Key West bight. It’s a slightly campy but nonetheless enjoyable experience to listen to live kettle drum and reggae music while feasting on conch fritters, smoked fish dip, coconut shrimp and blackened fish. Though not fished locally (as it is a protected species), conch is still very much a regional dish, available here in the form of chowder, fritters, and Bahamian “cracked” style with Key lime mustard. Also a specialty are Caribbean-inspired items like St. Kitts ravioli (stuffed with crab, tossed with seared shrimp) or baked oysters callaloo. Pair any item with a cocktail made with one of the restaurant’s 80 brands of rum and you’ve got your “postcard-worthy” moment in Key West’s most scenic part of town.
