From the outside, Cork & Cleaver Social Kitchen doesn’t look like much of a dining destination. (It’s in a nondescript strip mall and you can barely see the interior from the exterior.) Owners and chefs Brian Okin and Adam Bostwick, who are brothers-in-law, bring their creative approach to working with locally sourced ingredients, and deliver flavor-forward dishes that are constantly evolving. The dinner menu and the desserts change seasonally and showcase the best of what northeast Ohio has to offer, from meats to cheeses and produce. They even have a small restaurant garden filled with heirloom produce. Start with the Reuben ribs, a cleverly deconstructed version of the classic sandwich; this take is served over a bed of crunchy napa slaw. From there, the scallops are big, plump and sweet, and served with well-seasoned Israeli couscous and marinated peas. If you’re looking for something to stick to your ribs, the chicken is a must. Fried and plated with a warm pile of mac ‘n’ cheese, it’s worth every calorie. Desserts are equally indulgent and range from tempura fried brownies to fruit-focused comfort sweets. The wine list is well written --- ditto for beer --- and the cocktail lineup features a handful of charming artisan libations.
