The Cottage Restaurant Review: Situated in a charming historic bungalow in the heart of the Village, The Cottage offers the quintessential La Jolla dining experience. No pretensions here, so just wander in off the street after shopping trendy Girard Avenue to sample the menu of mostly California-style cuisine. The small patio bustles on weekend mornings, making it an ideal people-watching spot. We like the country-style, mascarpone-stuffed french toast, the cheesy mashed potato omelet or the Cottage granola and steamed milk for breakfast. At lunchtime, we recommend the grilled chicken and goat cheese salad, as well as the flat-iron steak sandwich with garlic aïoli. Also appealing is the grilled asparagus bruschetta and chicken tortilla soup for a lighter sampling. Dinner is only served Memorial Day through Labor Day, when the warm summer nights are perfect for sipping wine and noshing on grilled mahi mahi tacos or pan-roasted wild salmon with Mediterranean couscous and tomato-olive relish. |
