Cottage Street Bakery Restaurant Review: Two words make this little bakery one of the most popular spots in Orleans: dirt bomb. The bakery defines a dirt bomb as a “French donut puff,” but locals are more likely to call it simply the bomb. However, this light, cinnamon and sugar flavored muffin-shaped pastry is not the bakery's only draw. Cottage Street also makes an array of scones, danishes and coffee cakes as well as egg sandwiches for breakfast. For lunch, there's a daily changing selection of house-made soups, salads and sandwiches composed with freshly baked breads in flavors like cheese onion dill and oatmeal with molasses. The bakery, which has been an Orleans institution for over 25 years, makes cakes, cookies, tarts and pies and boasts a thriving wedding cake business, too.
