| The County Line’s operation includes outlets as far away as Albuquerque where indifferent barbecue may pass unnoticed, but while portions remain generous, and the décor is still shamelessly country kitschy, the kitchen seems to have slipped of late. Beef ribs are still meaty, so the uninspiring sauce can be skipped (ask for it on the side), but brisket comes across more like pot roast. It---and many other platters---can be had in a “lite” serving portion, which is appreciated, however. Other meaty options include smoked, peppered turkey breast and a twelve-ounce sirloin; fish lovers, who are advised to remember where they are, may nonetheless choose from tortilla-crusted catfish or grilled salmon. We tend to like sides such as fried okra and coleslaw, and note that house-made desserts are worth a look. Note, too, that there is a County Line outlet on the River Walk downtown with essentially the same menu. |
