Arlington’s Cowboy Café has a dive-y past as a smoke-filled bar where good old boys sat down to talk, drink, and maybe eat burgers and chili. But times have changed, and the current owners (two brothers) are polishing the restaurant’s image to make it a family-friendly place. The menu has even undergone a change, with some of the staples removed and replaced by more upscale eats. Gone are some of the burritos and less popular old-timers replaced by gentrified Tex-Mex and Southern dishes, such as a Cowboy cheesesteak, shrimp po’ boy, and Texas-style chili. The seemingly endless hamburger selections---from The Cowboy to the Plain Old Burger and including a veggie option---will remain. For ultra-calorie pleasure, try the butterfinger bread pudding for dessert.
