This is the place to come for creative, seasonal American cuisine with finesse that makes sense. The setting, which is just austere enough, doesn’t detract, pointing diners to the artistry on the plate. Chef-owner Suzy Crofton can take a simple piece of meat and make it sing with flavor. Try the pork tenderloin with smoky apple chutney and Anson Mills grits (you’ll be back, soon, for more). The magic she works with vegetables---such as golden chanterelle soup with cinnamon-scented hazelnuts---is on another level altogether. And, most assuredly, you will fall in love with the “pushup” of apricot sorbet as well as the various fruit tarts that appear now and again throughout the year. The affordable wine list is well thought-out (and has some nice half bottles, too), and there’s a fab selection of loose-leaf teas. |
