| Launched as a wine bar with noshes, Crush quickly built a reputation for soul-warming French comfort food. Seasonal favorites include filet de boeuf au vin rouge, truite aux amandes and a killer appetizer of tender steamed mussels Provençal. The seared foie gras with red pepper conserves is, for liver-lovers, a must-order. For dessert? Try the gâteau de poire au beurre noisette, a brown butter pear cake with roasted pears, honey-rosemary ice cream, and a port wine reduction. Those looking for a light meal might consider the raw bar with a side of crusty bread and wine. Of course, Crush offers an extensive wine list, with many wines---all served in no-nonsense tumblers---offered by the glass at very reasonable prices. French wines seem to dominate the scene but adventurous imbibers will also find selections from South America, South Africa, Portugal and parts of the U.S. to sample. The establishment is named for part of the wine-making process, but occasionally the bistro gets so crowded, the name reflects the ambience. |
