While wine is the star in this former warehouse, the food is an apt contender. Appetizers such as Oyster Boy’s finest and Niagara prosciutto showcase Canadian specialties. Pancetta-wrapped saddle of rabbit is savory good, while “three little pigs” vary from head to toe in their success. Six weeks dry-aged rib-eye with red wine jus is always a good choice as is the duo (roasted and braised) of lamb. Apple crumble and lemon tart can be passed up for the tasting portions of fine global cheeses including raw milk, Munster-style cru d’erable from Quebec. Cheeses go better with wines in any case. Every month, a different region is featured with three whites and three reds available in flights of two-ounce pours. An additional 20 wines are served by the glass in three- or five-ounce pours. The by-the-bottle list tops 400 labels and includes many well-priced, well-chosen wines from both old and new world. From single vineyard Grüner Veltliner from Schloss Gobelsburg to Hermitage La Chapelle and Cakebread Benchland Select, the wines make apparent the real reason you’re here.
