Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar Restaurant Review: This first American outpost of the popular Australian pizza chain perches on a lively strip of Ventura Boulevard in Studio City. The ultra-modern space features dark hardwood floors, black leather and stacked stone walls. The traditional pies are satisfying, with what is indeed a pleasant, flavorful crust and herbed tomato sauce that’s not too sweet. Fancy gourmet pies make up the bulk of the menu --- from Szechuan chili prawn with spring onions and bocconcini to pesto scallop, pine nuts and goat cheese. Black Angus beef and Philly steak are made for meat lovers, while a host of vegetarian items include fresh spinach, asparagus and wild mushroom. Fruity salads like pear/Gorgonzola or chicken/peach are refreshing; for dessert, there’s a rocky road calzone filled with mud cake, dark chocolate, marshmallows and cherries.
