Da Campo Osteria Restaurant Review: At Da Campo Osteria, located in the Il Lugano Suite Hotel on the Intracoastal Waterway, diners may enjoy the canal views from the contemporary dining area, but the view of enthused-looking chefs in the brick-walled open kitchen is better. As the kitchen's sizeable copper-fronted wood oven and grill would suggest, some of the best dishes here are flavored by flame: nicely charred flatbread pizzas, ranging from a simple margherita to a more innovative fig/prosciutto pie; mussels in tomato/caper berry/olive broth, baked under a salted bread crust; a fire-crusted Prime rib-eye with caramelized Brussels sprouts, Gorgonzola and pancetta. But handmade pastas (like shrimp pappardelle with basil cream, heirloom tomatoes, and toasted pignolis) are also worthy. And it's tempting to make a whole meal of the mozzarella, hand-pulled from curds tableside and garnished one (or all) of six ways, from simple (salt, pepper, olive oil) through robust (peppadew and hot pepperoncini peppers) through dessert (honey-spiced walnuts and Marsala-infused blonde raisins). The wine list is global and comprehensive (though admittedly the most interesting selections, including some quality sparklers, are Italian), with an extensive, if expensive, selection by the glass.
