At Da Campo Osteria, a Todd English establishment in the Il Lugano Suite Hotel, diners can enjoy canal views or chefs working the large wood oven and grill in the glassed-in kitchen. The flames of the oven produce charred flatbread pizzas such as a simple margherita or more innovative wild mushroom with semi-soft boschetto cheese with truffle shavings, and fire-crusted meats and fish. Fresh pastas such as capelli with shrimp and clams and short rib ravioli are also worthy. And it's hard to resist mozzarella hand-pulled from curds tableside garnished with prosciutto and fig balsamico or olive oil, sea salt and cracked pepper among other toppings. The wine list is global, though the most interesting selections, including some quality sparklers, are Italian, with an extensive, if expensive, array by the glass.
