A longtime destination for business lunches, Dakota Grill & Spirits boasts wood-fired pizzas, pastas and eclectic entrées with a Southwestern flair. We prefer to stop in for appetizers and salads, the front-loaded menu's best areas. Try the roasted garlic flat bread served with a whole head of gooey garlic, caramelized onions and Gorgonzola. Also good is the five-onion soup with a broiled fontina crust and sourdough croutons. We like the pressed arugula salad, but find it a bit schizophrenic (strawberries and dried figs?). A better choice is the warm spinach and shrimp salad with avocados, corn, tomatoes and garlic-basil dressing. The pecan-roasted chicken breast would taste better if it weren't covered in a soupy mushroom sauce. Instead, order the skirt steak with salsa fresca, charred scallions and mashed potatoes. Desserts are most definitely Dakota's low point; if you must have something sweet, stick with the sorbets.
