Chef Joseph Viola has opened his second Daniel et Denise restaurant in Lyon. Located near the iconic Cathédrale St-Jean, this small "bouchon" (local name for a typical bistro) serves hearty, traditional cuisine. Viola belongs to the "Meilleur Ouvrier de France" club, which gives his restaurants a considerable reputation: pike quenelles with Nantua sauce, pâté-en-croûte with foie gras and sweetbreads, and a whole veal kidney slowly stewed in a casserole. Save room for the excellent baba au rhum.
