THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Daniel's Restaurant Review:
This intimate, elegant-chic San Marco restaurant serves beautifully-prepared French Provencal dishes with the occasional flourish from the Pacific Rim or American Regional repertoire. Mediterranean dishes capture the earthy essence of the Provencal kitchen. Don't miss the loup de mer (whole black sea bass) baked in a crust of rock salt and chiseled and plated tableside. The rack of lamb with a mysteriously dark, rich olive tapenade sauce is another good alternative. Crêpes Suzette, flamed tableside, offer a wonderfully retro denouement. Lest you think Daniel's sounds like a fine restaurant for a special occasion or tête-à-tête, we should warn you about the service. It's, well, inconsistent. Waiters know the ropes and make a dramatic show of cooking cart-prepared dishes. But it's not unusual to sit at a table ten or 15 minutes before anyone acknowledges your presence. The wine list is fairly comprehensive, but ask for a soft drink or iced tea and you may feel like you're speaking Venusian.
