Darbar Grill Restaurant Review

: This Midtown East Indian eatery is tucked away on East 55th Street behind the bustle of Lexington and Third Avenues. It’s a culinary oasis focusing on a cuisine that doesn’t get a lot of creative attention. Start off with the okra crunch, which lives up to its name: fried okra that’s crispy, but manages to retain much of its flavor. The tandoori lamb chops are tender enough to stand on their own, but benefit from their spice accents. Spice notes also play a role with the goat vindaloo, taking their time to sneak up on the palate. The menu is sprinkled with some not-so-Indian offerings as well, such as mediocre croquettes with goat cheese. But your best bet is sticking to the subcontinental dishes, which is what they do best here. The wine and beer selection is limited, but decent.
