Darryl's Corner Bar & Kitchen Restaurant Review: Owner Darryl Settles has turned the former Bob the Chef's location into a sleek, Southern-inspired restaurant. Area students and South End hipsters flock to Darryl's for the live jazz, R&B and reggae that plays every night. Start with a whiskey smash to wash down an order of fried catfish strips or Cajun crab cakes, and don’t miss the bacon barbecue cheeseburger with sweet potato fries. Jambalaya is prepared with confidence --- a loaded, spicy combination of shrimp, sausage, chicken, mussels and rice. Tender, juicy barbecue ribs are cooked low and slow, served with the meat practically falling off the bone. True southerners may go for the crispy cheese grits with greens, beans and tomato gravy, but the best find just might be the chicken stuffed with cornbread and topped with a sweet and spicy chocolate-chili sauce and braised red cabbage. For dessert, there are no surprises (sweet potato pie and mile high chocolate cake), but we recommend the red velvet cake.
