Dave & Buster’s Restaurant Review: Why should small fry have all the fun? Those under 18 are welcome at this 60,000-square-foot establishment but only if accompanied by an adult. The aim of Dave and Buster, two Texans whose nationwide eating-drinking-gaming chain originated in 1982, is big fun for big people. The Million Dollar Midway’s games range from cutting-edge video simulations back through Ms. Pac-Man to old-fashioned analog amusements like Skee-Ball---and winners can trade earnings for carnival-type prizes to impress one’s date. Cocktails also time travel, from classic cosmos to D&B’s signature TNT (featuring vodka, gin, rum, Grand Marnier, and a souvenir glass). And food is equally geared for wide appeal: tempura-fried mushrooms; hefty Jack Daniels barbecue sauce-basted ribs; salads, with an astonishing variety of dressings; even a few low-carb dishes, like grilled chicken with green beans, for the responsibly health-minded. But few diners here let a grown-up sense of responsibility prevent them from scarfing down a wedge of triple chocolate cake---even if they haven’t finished all their green veggies first. |
