Mount Adams, a hilltop neighborhood overlooking Cincinnati, is home to many good pubs and cafés, including Daveed's at 934. Chef-owner David Cook left a job with the city's premier restaurant family to open this spot, and it's obvious that he and his wife, Liz, who keeps things convivial at the front of the house, have thought about this eatery for a long time. To celebrate its tenth anniversary, Daveed's lowered its prices and updated its menu (like a three-course dinner for $35 or paired with wine for $45). Foie gras remains one of the chef's specialties; seasonal preparations may pair it with pineapple, a Belgian waffle and sherry, or it may team with lavender ice cream. Entrées include roasted venison with Brussels sprouts, sweet potato, butternut squash and yogurt; pan-seared Arctic char with succotash, veal sauce, ham and white onion; and grilled hanger steak with chard, spinach and wild mushrooms. The intriguing wine list is as much fun to explore as the menu---it's full of choices from boutique wineries. Daveed's offers cooking classes, wine dinners and a blind tasting menu with anywhere from three- to-12 courses paired with wine. The staff is professional and proud of the food---meaning you never lack attention.
