This petite dining parlor offers palpable proof to the proverb, “try, try again.” After reinventing Japanese robata and Korean kalbi concepts, proprietors Jack and Grace Lamb get it right, fusing sushi bar intimacy with globally inspired small plates. Within the slate-walled perimeter, 16 seats cluster around a wooden bar where wunderkind chef Wesley Genovart flaunts his Vongerichten-trained talents right before diners’ hungry eyes. Think a hipper, more pocketbook-friendly L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon without sacrificing any sophistication or flavor. Menu items may include crispy sweetbreads with cucumber and dill Greek yogurt spiced with thai chilies and a "cheese steak" made of tomato and roasted red pepper escalivada, raclette cheese, pain de mie and an herb salad. For a truly flavorful evening, choose the chef’s five-course tasting menu. Reasonably priced, well-chosen wine flights complete the experience, making it even more cost effective.
