DeLise Dessert Cafe Restaurant Review

: DeLise marries the names of its owner-chefs, Dennis and Eloise Leung. The Leungs, who met while attending San Francisco's Le Cordon Bleu-affiliated California Culinary Academy, handcraft an ever-evolving range of original pastries, ice creams and vegan sorbets, drawing on Western and Asian elements to produce inspired flavor blends. Adventurous pastries --- bite-size so that you can try several per visit --- include miso-spiked Rice Crispy squares and pistachio-saffron and sesame-red bean macarons. Ice creams are made in a gelato machine using a Straus organic dairy base, and include Thai iced tea, goat cheese-fig, moon cake and toasted rice. Watch for earnest experiments, meant to expand the palate, such as a Father's Day ice cream with Scotch and chopped-up cigars. (The cigars were filtered out of the liquid before freezing, leaving just a vague suggestion of tobacco on the tongue.) Coffee, tea and light lunch fare are also available, including sandwiches such as truffled egg salad, tuna-kimchi and chipotle BLT.
