Deschutes Brewery & Public House Restaurant Review: Beer is definitely the star at this attractive pub, with numerous craft microbrews on tap. It's the big city outpost of a popular Bend brewery, and intricate, Western-style wood carvings bring a Central Oregon vibe to the airy, industrial space. While the burgers (beef, plus elk and quinoa-cashew) are popular, the menu is extensive, and includes such entrées as squash ravioli, hazelnut-crusted rockfish, and curried chicken salad. Some of the best choices feature home-brewed products, like the root beer-braised pork belly and spent grain flatbread. Seafood fans can try fresh local oysters with an assortment of three sauces, including the Black Butte Porter cocktail sauce that uses one of Deschutes’ brews. For dessert, try the cheeky monkey bread pudding, made with vanilla coconut custard and chocolate chunk bread, topped with peanut butter ice cream. Deschutes also accommodates gluten-free diners, offering a special menu with smoked paprika fries, steamer clams, salads and home-brewed gluten-free beer. |
