Deschutes Brewery & Public House Restaurant Review:

Bend, Oregon is the original home of Deschutes Brewery, and a Central Oregon vibe permeates even this big city outpost. The airy industrial space is both partitioned and warmed by intricate Western-style wood carvings. While the beer, brewed on-site with 22 taps, is clearly the main event, many dishes raise the bar for standard brewpub fare. Burgers are a hit with chimichurri fries and, along with beef, include elk and quinoa-cashew. Entrées feature smoked chicken with a field greens salad, asparagus atop homemade fettuccine, and a hearty steak and bacon chowder. Some of the best choices feature home-brewed products, such as the root beer-braised pork belly and spent grain flatbread. Seafood fans will want to try fresh local oysters with three sauces, including the Black Butte Porter cocktail sauce incorporating one of Deschutes’ own brews. For dessert, sample the cheeky monkey bread pudding made with vanilla coconut custard and chocolate chunk bread and topped with peanut butter ice cream. Deschutes also accommodates gluten-free diners, offering a special menu with smoked paprika fries, steamer clams, salads, and home-brewed gluten-free beer.
