Do or Dine Restaurant Review: A few guys in fine dining, formerly at Danny Meyer's The Modern, were sitting around one day talking about what their perfect restaurant would be. Before long, they'd scraped together enough money to make the dream a reality and opened Do or Dine. If you make the trek to this corner of Bed-Stuy, you'll find their whimsical fingerprints are all over this place. From the food-centered graffiti that line the walls of their twinkle-lighted open garden to the oddly captivating taxonomy of rap names hung in the bathroom, you want to relax and let loose. The menu scoots you along their playground where everything is better than it sounds. Fried gyoza treated as nachos, however mystifying, works. Foie gras donuts topped with raspberry preserves are both heavenly and sinful. We also recommend the whole fried fish with tobiko mohawk. The experimentation leads to some inevitable misses, but the fun of dining here almost outweighs the culinary flaws. Finish with an ice cream snickers ("from the bodega across the street") and savor your last few moments in this Brooklyn restaurant. |
