Dinette Restaurant Review: Dinette’s European-style menu begins with toast, which alone justifies a visit. Thick slices of Columbia City Bakery bread are transformed into starters that might make you consider skipping the entrées altogether. Topping combinations include fig-anchovies with arugula; Beecher’s sharp cheddar with spicy pickled peppers; smoked pork loin, Gruyère and béchamel; and warm mashed chickpeas with lemony aïoli. As you settle in with your toast, enjoy the romantically lit dining room accented by gold leaf stenciling and wall-mounted Italian tea trays. Main courses include ricotta gnocchi available with braised beef short rib ragù or hedgehog mushrooms and brown butter sauce; a smoked pork chop with Fuji apple, caraway and pickled mustard seed cream; and Guinness braised lamb with rutabaga mash. Desserts offer both traditionally sweet options, such as a plum and almond cream tart, and a more savory blue cheese and honeyed walnuts. The concise, thoughtful wine list proposes drinkable, mostly inexpensive imports.
