District 13 on Cahuenga Boulevard may just be the coolest hot dog joint in the city, with its rock ‘n’ roll and graffiti images paired with a grunge-induced modernism. This sister restaurant of Rambutan Thai is almost exclusively a sausage-and-beer proposition, but the sausages are hardly boring. Sure, you’ve got your bratwurst and spicy Italian, but you’ve also got exotics like pheasant with Cognac, wild boar and elk. Dress it up with your choice of condiments and you’re headed for a relatively memorable wiener, even if some menu items don’t live up to their exotic expectations. For nonconformists, there’s also fish ‘n’ chips, burgers and salads. For dessert, you can score peanut butter pie, and the bar offers 22 draft beers from craft producers around the state, as well as dozens of bottles from around the globe. And for a hot dog joint, there is a perfectly respectable assortment of wines.
