THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED District Restaurant Review:
District, another hip Hollywood eatery from restaurateur George Abou-Daoud (Bowery, The Mercantile, Delancey), inhabits a rustic space dominated by a long, nearly 100-year-old French bar. In addition to a steady flow of fresh oysters, the menu features dishes such as shrimp and grits, duck fat Yorkshire pudding, pork belly with apricot mostarda and steak frites. Kris Morningstar, a talented chef who changes kitchens rather frequently, also serves up Spam sliders with quail eggs and soy mayonnaise, and lamb meatloaf with harissa ketchup. Nutella bread pudding with salty Frangelico-whipped cream or pecan-studded dulce de leche cookies follow a meal washed down with deftly mixed artisanal cocktails.
