The revered restaurant at Domaine Chandon, the first winery in Napa to build a top-flight dining establishment on its premises, remains one of the best known in the valley. The setting, which overlooks slow-growing vines and a pretty pond, is still spectacular, and the dining room has gained a certain elegance with time. Appetizers include rabbit and foie gras terrine with a celery root and apple rémoulade and rich chestnut coulis. We love the rack of lamb served with an eggplant, almond and date tangine as well as the sage-robed filet mignon with a rich potato Maxim side. The menu also features many seafood dishes. For dessert, indulge in the apple tart with apricot coulis and mascarpone ice cream or the sorbets. The wine list has bargains on Domaine Chandon wine---big surprise---but prices generally run high.
