A funky spot in the Petworth neighborhood for Eastern European-Scandinavian fare.

Dining room at Domku Bar & Cafe, Washington, DCThis Petworth neighborhood restaurant pulls together all the fare that might spring from an Eastern European or Polish kitchen. As such, it’s really one of a kind in DC, for no other place dares to tread where this eatery goes: Swedish waffles may be a breakfast option, possibly smoked Baltic sprats for lunch or dinner, or maybe a bison burger or pirogi in two different variations---the one filled with cheese also contains little-seen buckwheat. While the offbeat menu is a real treat, we find service lagging. Note that while the vodkas and whacky brews are big news here, desserts are minimal---we recommend the almond cake.
