Dos Caminos Soho, New York, NY

Dos Caminos Soho Restaurant Review

: The high-octane Mexican palace on Park Avenue South was such a hit that it spawned a Soho location. A few blocks can make a big difference: The menu is the same---made-tableside guacamole and slow-roasted pork---but this Dos Caminos has an 80-seat outdoor patio. With a selection of 150 tequilas, this makes a good summer party destination. In case you're a smoker who thought you'd found a place to puff, no cigarettes allowed.

Very disappointing!

Every BR Guest restaurant was highly recommended by a friend who frequents NY and I have come to find her restaurant suggestions credible. Being the first BR Guest Restaurant that I've tried, Dos Caminos set a very low bar and I am now hesitant to try the rest. I visited this restaurant based on location and every time I drove by, it was always packed. I went ate here on a Wednesday afternoon for lunch. From the moment I walked into Dos Caminos, I was not satisfied. Upon entry of the restaurant, the hostess did not even acknowledge that my party (of 2) was standing right in front of her because she was too busy chatting with her coworker about a friend being on a date. When she finally noticed us, she asked if I wanted a table indoors or outdoors. I quickly said indoors, and she gave us a seat outdoors. I repeated that I wanted a seat indoors, and the mistake was quickly fixed. Innocent mistake, fine, but she was already on my bad side for ignoring me earlier. We were seating at a booth and the table was clean and prepared, but there was a dirty napkin still lying on the booth chair. I just sat on the other side of the booth and ignored it, fine. Our waitress came to our service at a decent time, though she served us warm water. We ordered the Cazuela de Queso Fundido for an appetizer and what we received was beyond what we imagined. Our chorizos were completely blackened and lacked taste except for the similarity to coal. The presentation of the overall appetizer was not appealing at all, and neither was the taste of it. I cannot recall what my friend ordered.. perhaps the Short Ribs Tamarindo, but I just know he said it lacked taste and was not satisfied with it. I ordered the Lamb Barbacoa, but before doing so, I specifically asked the waitress if the meal was spicy. She said no, yet, I received the Lamb and within my first bite I drank my entire cup of water because it was so spicy. My friend and I were so disappointed, we quickly lost our appetite and didn't finish the rest of our meals. Our waitress took a long time to return to our table and after handing us the check, it took her just as long to retrieve our payment. On the brighter side, the plantains were delicious as a side order.
