Although the façade of this restaurant is nondescript, its food is anything but. Tucked away amid cut-rate tool shops and discount electronics stores, Du Pain De L'Inde is home to some of the best Indian food in town. The atmosphere is low-key, with traditional paintings adorning the walls, and the brief menu has enough variety to appease all but the most demanding fans of Indian cuisine. Service is personable, and quite fast. Even a dish as seemingly simple as a biryani is turned into something worthy of a visit to sample it alone. The onion bahji are light, delicate morsels that can only be improved with a dip into the aromatic coriander sauce that accompanies. Butter chicken will win over the most ardent skeptic of Indian fare. The chai tea is markedly better than elsewhere, served unsweetened with sugar on the side. Prices are very affordable.
